Sep 16, a Travel Day from Osaka to Beijing

We took the 6:17am express train to the Kansai Airport, a 1 hour trip from our hotel.

Another flight on All Nippon Airlines. Great service!

Deb always smiles when she has good sake

About as close to North Korea as I'll ever get for awhile

A great drink that ANA claims to have invented: Aromatic Kabosu

Beijing! Mike and Deb make it to China.

Easy arrival in Beijing. We were met by our Viking escort Michael, better known as our guide throughout the land tour/cruise in China. It took about an hour to get to the hotel. Per Michael the smog level was low and we were fortunate.  But it was noticeably smoggy!

We're staying at the JW Marriott. Our room was beautiful. I believe we were upgraded, and were introduced to the Executive Lounge.

After settling into the hotel we took a taxi to the Temple of Heaven. As expected there were tons of people. It was a great way to start our China visit.

We drove this famous place on the ride to our hotel

Mike convinced Deb that it was a "short" walk from the Temple of Heaven back to the hotel. A short 2 mile walk that took us thru a pedestrian shopping area, and a hutong area. Let's just say that Deb was a little uncomfortable. Fortunately, there was much to see, and Deb found a shop selling fans and fan cases at a good price.

This is Deb's Happy Face when walking thru an unfamiliar area

For dinner we went to the executive lounge. The food spread was fantastic. Also all drinks were available.

The nearby "dark" area is a hutong across the street from the hotel

The lights in the distant center is Tiananmen Square

The weather was warm, but livable. Looking forward to meeting everyone on the cruise tomorrow, but first we have the opportunity to visit the Summer Palace, Northwest of central Beijing.
